    "Bugs" Beaty tied the fly.....

    I know who Dr. Mummy was. Anybody else?

    Meet Dr. Nolie Mumey. He is quite a story and was an accomplished man. He died in 1984. You can see why the fly was named "Dr. Mummy" if you take a look at his autograph at the bottom of his picture.

    Here is an illustration of the Dr.Mummy fly from George Grant in his book "Montana Trout Flies"; and a comment he made: "The DR.MUMMY was a most popular fly until the advent of the spinning reel about 1950 when flyfishing went into a decline in Montana, and many of these old patterns were lost because they were unknown to a new generation of fly-tyers and fly fisherman when the fly resurgence occurred."
