depends a lot on the fly.
    there are full feather wings,
    married wings,
    mallard wings
    Hair wings

Find a decent book or find some patterns online and buy from there. As with starting out tying any style of fly, its best to start with one or two patterns.

I just posted a Sweeney Todd fly for steelhead, which is a modern update of an older english pattern.

It used silver fox hair (dyed black)for the wing, with a floss body and some grizzly hackles for cheeks.
