Here's a good Pike page from fly-fishing author Clive Schaupmeyer (The Essential Guide to Fly-Fishing).

    Thank You

We must frequent the same forums

The fly you want to try has a extended body and is quite an effective pattern

Hook size is a 6/0 saltwater hook

Another pattern you might want to try is a large leech in the 6" range. The guys at in-fisherman have this as a must for early season pike. I'd just say the black figure would intrest them to a point. Also the fly I've attached has worked well for me untill the tip of the hook bent. Remember pike have a large, hard jaw bone that some hooks break when hit. It has a simple body and a orange hour glass type weight at the front. It works great as a nose down sinker then when twiched it shoots upwards. The second I made by taking a treble hook and removeing the top hook. Then I put on what you see. Simple patterns but the maraboo/color help give it a pulsating action that they loved. The last time I got to try them I had 5 hits, hooked 3 fish, lost the one (due to the hook bending) and landed 2. That was with a 5wt rod though.

I've been catching a lot of pickerel on streamers lately - they're very uncomplicated fish and will strike at anything that has some flash and movement. I debarb my hooks and and use a boga grip so that i don't harm the fish and my hand.

    good luck,

try a crease minnow with a real flashy tail for explosive top water strikes. they wont alway hit a surface fly but when the do it is truely a site to see
I don't always fly fish but when I do I prefer salt water. Stay salty my freinds
