My favorite beatis nymph pattern is an ultra simple fly that I picked up from a local.

Hook: 16-20 Tiemco 3769 or similar
Tail: a few dun microfibbets or wood duck fibers
    Body: Black thread, tapered
    Abdomen: Thread body, continued
Wing case: 10-12 strands of krystal flash

1: Start thread and tie in tail fibers
2: Wrap thread foward, tapering body as you go. Keep in mind the body portion should remain slim.
3: Tie in 10-12 black krystal flash fibers for wing case
4: Build up thorax area with the thread, trying to keep proportions as correct as possible.
5: Pull the KF forward over the thorax, and whip finish or double half hitch the fly.
6: Coat the entire fly in SHHAN (except the tail fibers)

This is one of those easy to tie flies that you can mass produce. It is easily one of my most productive flies over the course of the year. It's almost embarrassing how simple of a fly this is.

This time of year, the major hatch around here is tiny #24-26 olives
Being so small, I find that a parachute with a thread body and a grey poly yarn (Aunt Lydia's) post works fine and is easiest to tie

Most of my Trout fishing is done here in the West and in particular, the Eastern Sierras...This is a go-to pattern for me which I fish from the bottom to just under the surface of the water column...I rarely use dries...

    BAT WING BAETIS EMERGER…Tracy Petersen…#16-#20…this is a #20

THREAD: Gordon Griffith’s 14/0, Gray or Olive, Tiemco 16/0 Gray

    HOOK: TMC 2487 or Daiichi 1130, #16-#20

    TAIL: Dun Hen Hackle Barbs

ABDOMEN:BWO or Olive Goose Biot ( I use Stalcup’s)…it may be tied fringed or flat

WING: Fluffy, butt end of a Dun Hen feather, mounted convex side up and pulled over Abdomen and Bead

    ABDOMEN:Brown or Dk. Tan Beaver

BEAD: Gun Metal Glass or Black Metal sized to hook

I tie these in a variety of colors:

    CDL TUNG BAT WING BAETIS (Black) – Petersen/Variant- Daiichi 1130, #18 – #20…

    Materials for the Tung version...

I tie a lot of Baetis/BWO patterns. These are a few that I just completed...

Kelly G. ties some really good BWO patterns...maybe he will put one or two up ???...

PT, timing is everything. While I was composing my post, yours snuck in ahead of me!

Two flies that I have the most success with are as follows:

    KG's EPF BWO Halfback Emerger:

    Hook: DaiRiki 125 size 16-20
    Thread: UTC Ultra 70 Olive-brown
    Shuck: Simi-seal amber dubbing
    Abdomen: BWO-dyed goose biot
    Thorax: BWO Super Fine dubbing
    Wingcase: Electronics packing foam
    Legs: BWO-dyed CDC puff

And, the KG's BWO CDC Parasol:

    Hook: DaiRiki 125 sizes 14-20
    Thread: 8/0 brown-olive
    Tail: Amber dubbing as shuck
    Abdomen: Olive-gray goose biot
    Thorax: BWO Super Fine dubbing
    Wingcase: Med. Dun CDC puff
    Wing: Medium dun CDC puff

How about this as a reference photo?:

for a bwo/baetis imitation, the pheasant tail nymph isnt bad

Poor quality materials and tools are destined to discourage beginner tiers and cause greater expense when the time comes to replace them.
