Default Small Flies and a Great Forum

After I posted on the "Can you tie the small stuff?" thread, Calftail generously sent me a half dozen size 28 mustads to try out. It has been a busy week but I found some time to sit down at the vise and here's my first 28 fly, a little olive. Have some work to do to clean it up but not bad for a first go.

Played around tying a griffith's gnat too but found the very top hackles on my capes to be too big. Actually the peacock herl stuck out almost far enough They'll be fun to play around with and I doubt the fish would notice, but it is fun to try to get the pattern right. I'll sure try fishing them this winter.

    Thanks Calftail!

I just now read the final state fishing report of the year.
Dominate hatches this week are 24-26 BWOs and brown/winter caddis
The caddis are 18-20 now but will get smaller as we get into the meat of winter....down to sz32.
I tie down to 24 but that's where I draw the line
Who can see that **** ??

    William,

I'm impressed ! Great go for the first 28. I think you will agree after trying one that your focus has sharpened and the regular patterns that you tie will come up a notch?

Yeah I think I'll trail it behind a 16 or 18 parachute adams or something similar. Need some visual to find this thing on the water

Thanks! And thanks again for the hooks. It did sharpen my focus, should tie one of these before tying size 20 comparaduns, they'll seem huge!
