Thread: Hook & Hackle Premium Cape/Saddle

  1. Default Hook & Hackle Premium Cape/Saddle

Has anyone tried a premium cape/saddle from Hook & Hackle (store brand, rated for 800-1000 dry flies)? I know the shop has a great reputation, and would consider picking up a pack or two. However, there does not seem to be much information about em online. Anyone happen know if they are worth the money (~$55 as of this morning)? Am I better off just sticking with the big name brands?

cant offer much about H&H, but Collins hackle is certainly worth a look too if you want to go off the beaten track (Not big name whiting or Metz)

Whiting is always my default personal preference, I've just had solid experiences with those feathers. When the hair craze kicked in, I was looking for feathers in a certain color and couldn't find them anywhere. Low and behold H&H had what I was looking for in stock. I've been pleased with them and they're certainly worth consideration if they have what you're looking for.

If you really want to know, just call H&H and ask who their supplier is. They are pretty helpful over the phone, in my experience.

Thanks for the advice! Feeling a little more confident now… will probably give the h&h stuff a try. Not quite sure where to find the Collins; any suggestions?

Collins hackle farm , search it on Google. You gotta buy from Charlie Collins himself via phone or mail order, no online ordering. Calling is the best way, he'll sort you or with exactly what you need. There are some vendors on the east coast, but they're few and far between

there are on line suppliers that carry collins hackle but it might be just easier to call him and get the correct feathers you need.
