Thanks for this it seems like it will be useful to save and look back on.

With that said, I challenge someone to get 12 inches of any diameter lead wire on a 18 or smaller sized hook. Math will be required no matter what.

My rule of thumb is to use the same diameter wire as the hook shank diameter.

as with any chart, info provided is generally used as a guide and is not a cast in stone commandment.

the fly tyer always has the option to use a guide or to just do what he damn well pleases without penalty

i'm guilty of using a smaller wire on a larger hook as well as have many tyers. the fish didnt care
