  1. Default What is this fly called?

I bought this fly in colorado this past sept. Looks like a size 20 or 22. I want to tie some more up but I don't know what the fly is called. Not really sure what was use for the wing either? Does anyone know that this is called? And what is used for the wing?

Looks like a "CDC Biot Emerger". It can be fished on top, or in the surface film. Appears to be a variation of a Harrop pattern.

    The wing material is CDC.

Ok. This may be a silly question but what does CDC stand for?

    Hi tgoodwater2002,

Here is a link about CDC feathers that will be helpful. This question is covered in a FAQ.

Alright! I went to Cabela's and they had some CDC feathers. I can't wait to get one of these tied up and I'll post pics when I am done.

Ok this is what came out. Doesn't look quite the same but I think still looks good. I tied in on a 22.

nice fly! not bad! if the fish can tell any difference when the fly is a size 22 then they got some good eyes!!! thats small! wow. smallest I tied was a 16 and I thought that was bad! make a dozen more and you will get better and better at it everyone you make!

I'm pretty sure that is one of Shane Stalcup's duck butt patterns. He has come up with some really cool stuff using biots and CDC.

I'd rather hunt fish than bait deer any day.
