Thats a pretty fly. I really should tie more of the classic styled flies.

I like the look of the classic flies, I just can't imagine highly pressured fish eating them though... Around here the more realistic the better.

Hi Tevis,

I am spelling that right aren't I? Any way what I was thinking is that I fished for about 20 years a whole lot on Pennsylvania's Spring Creek where the fish have seen plenty of flies. Feather Wing Streamers, classically dressed always caught fish and I believe it was because they possessed 2 qualities. One: they have the profile and motion when presented properly, of a small forage fish, and 2, they were not what the fish were accustomed to seeing. I don't suspect you'll find many brown trout that'll whack a Jock Scott but I figure you could raise a few dandies on a well dressed Nine Three.

My staple streamer was my own Brown Trout Minnow I called the Answer. From the mid 90's until 2004 it caught hundreds of browns in Spring and many other Heritage (no kill) waters in PA. & CO. I'll PM you a link to an article about The Answer pattern.

Ard

New goal: develop a feather wing similar to Ard's that fools Colorado's pressured fish! Of course this means I will have to buy more fly boxes...

You say that like it's a bad thing.

I'd like to see the pattern too Ard.
I really think these style flies could be the missing links between all those other voracious game fish,(like bass, walleye, pike, pickerel, etc)and big lunker deeper water trout.
I think too I'll have to work on a regional specific pattern for here. I am sure it will be based on the stickle back, gudgeon, chub, or shrimp. The browns, blacks, olives and silvers would be the colour combinations around here I'm thinking.

Happy tying.

Parachute Madam X. The PMX is a pain to tie, but it is quite possibly my favorite fly.
