Joni, you do a lot more stillwater fly fishing than I do, just wondering what size range of chironomids do you like best?

Thank you. That's the challenge with saltwater flies for the surf. I'll actually have to cast whatever I tie consistently. Getting a profile without having it feel like an old shoe at the end of the line can be tricky.

In addition to the normal boring stuff, I tied some Grumpy Frumpy's the other day. this sure is a cool fly, going to do some smaller ones tonight.

Today was Pat's Rubber legs sizes 4-10 and in red/yellow, brown/black, and green/yellow. Also tied up a couple of Juan Ramirez's Royal Gorgeous Caddis.

Whipped up a couple of flies for musky hunting this weekend. One of the lakes has abundant gizzard shad that the musky like to snack on so I figured this would fit the bill for them toothy critters.

    Nice tie.

Although this could start an interesting debate over whether you're better off imitating natural food, or something big and flashy. I tend to lean towards the latter, because musky don't eat very often at all despite their reputations for killing everything that comes close. I like something that will get they're attention and maybe tickle that lateral line a little bit. Although admittedly, fly fisherman are at a big disadvantage when it comes to lateral line tickles though compared to gear guys.

Anyways, I just felt like typing something this morning. Good luck this weekend with the unicorns.
