Default Anyone here fish St. Joseph River Salmon Run?

    Hello,

I am new here and was wondering if anyone fishes the St. Joseph river salmon run and other tributaries near it?

I am located near the Zappia Park Dam which is the end of the line for them anyone near?

Does anyone have any other good spots to share near Niles, MI?

I'm not too far away but have not fished the river. I plan on doing so this fall / winter. I fish Trail Creek and Salt Creek occasionally. I haven't invested too much time into the St. Joe because of its size and time needed to find suitable wading areas. Mishawaka is the end of the road for the salmon / steelhead runs.

I haven't fished Trail Creek since 2002 how is it? I had some good luck when I used to go but I only used conventional equipment.

I've heard of Salt Creek never fished it where is it?

I live right on the river here in Berrien Springs...

There is indeed lots of Salmon in the river right now unfortunately, if you wanted to fish the Niles Dam area, there is a park on both sides of the river below the dam and offers good access...

The ladder is closed in South Bend as they are collecting steelhead broodstock so focus your efforts anywhere on the river below South Bend, there is indeed lots of fish in Indiana's water right now...

The ditches in Indiana are another option however, sort of like fishing in a bath tub...

If you want to learn about the fishery, I suggest buying a map and putting your time in, plenty of locales to wet a line, Fall water levels are very wading friendly as well. Below any of the dams is a good starting point for the wading angler...
