Switch Rods
I'm just getting into switch rods, after recieving a Cabelas 11' 8wt as a gift.I can see myself learning with this setup but a friend told me that I need to go ahead and spend some $ on a good setup.
Any thoughts on where I should start?I was thinking maybe a Scott A3 1106?Any help will be appriciated,oh most of my fishing will be tailwaters if it makes any difference

Re: Switch Rods
Sorry for the long delay in responding, just saw your posting. First, for the type of fishing you've described the 8wt will be total over kill. A 6wt would be the top end unless you've got some seriously large fish to deal with.

For Jollies, Google ACR fly rods (Gary Anderson) and click on what he calls his 'trouters.' Good description of what light 2-handers (line weight) are appropriate for a given size of fish/fishing conditions.

Re: Switch Rods
Ok thank I'll check that out.I'm thinking that most of my fishing will be for Stripers ,with some trout thrown in on my trips north

Re: Switch Rods
Don't know diddly about stripper fishing save for what I read. But there the 8 wold probably more appropriate than a 6,

Re: Switch Rods
Good answer! I've taught a lot of folks (over the years) how to cast 2-handers. The folks who'd never held them got on real quick (one major exception:rolleyes:. The folks who were 'self taught,' another matter as you had to 'unwhined' bad habits first.
