Green Ween Gaddy

Another from the Ween Gaddy series from Marty Howard. Green isn’t normally in my rotation of flies.... this one will be.

It is a very adaptable to numerous color variations. GP breast is simply perfect for a spoon set whole feather wing.

Hook - Blue Heron #2
Tip - Small silver oval tinsel
Tag - Yellow floss
Tail - GP crest and tippet
Body - Green floss and dark olive angora dub
Hackle - Gadwall flank
Collar - Black ringneck pheasant rump followed by a peacock body feather
Wing - Two dyed green GP breast feathers set flat on top
Head - Black thread and Loon UV cure

One final word.....I mentioned it before I believe. Pick up a copy of Dec Hogan and Marty Howard’s Steelhead Fly Tying Art and Design. It’s simply the best. The photography, the stories and the step by steps on feather wings, married wings, hair wings, Intruders, bombers/surface flies, tube flies, Muddlers and many others from these two is simply top shelf.

+1 on Mike's recommendation of Dec and Marty's book--I've got it, and it's a modern classic. But I'll warn you: those two are amazing tyers, and will put any of us lesser beings to shame (well, maybe not you Mike). You will definitely want up your tying skills before tackling those flies.
