If you have the less expensive, most common type that has the flat face cutter such as the Angler's Image, Umpqua, etc there is a fast and easy way to sharpen them.
Take a 500 grit sandpaper and place it on a hard flat surface. Close the nipper and rub it across the paper for about 15 seconds or so. Then take a 800 grit and do the same. That's all there is to it. Makes them like new again.
The 800 grit isn't a must do, but it does get them a bit sharper. You may want to do the 500 grit a bit longer if not doing the second 800 grit step.
Then take the money you save from buying new nippers and buy beer with it.
