Identifying unmarked lines

Omg this is not what want i want to read. My new line came in. Was wondering what my old line is not buying a scale. Must be a easier way to tell
Put the new line on and cast it. Put the old line on and cast it and compare how it loads the rod.
That should give you and idea what the old line is...

Identification can be difficult without 2 things at hand: a grain scale and a baseline weight to work from. For instance if you know that a line labeled 8 weight weighs 300 grains in the head / belly section then you have a basis for best guess on unknown lines. Example; a 230 grain line would likely be a seven weight and so forth.

I actually bought a digital grain sacle for lines and the flies I make that have weight. This enables me to know in advance what will and will not work for fishing.
