Nestor's PT is the only version of the Pheasant Tail that I have every tied/fished... suggestive without being specific... to this day olive #16 when Baetis are active is just criminally effective.

I just tied a few soft hackle (partridge) pheasant tail bead heads a few weeks back, and caught a couple of whitefish with them last Sunday. Was hoping for grayling but oh well.

I like this version. The copper wire thorax helps it sink faster and it can be fished under a dry fly without dragging it under. It has been a good producer for me this year on a lot of different waters.

What are a couple of your favorite sizes using this pattern?

Here is another pattern that I like. I wrap the thorax part of the hook with lead and omit the bead.

I don't like the nymphs with the bulky appearance. I think a slender body imitates a natural better.
