Need to spool up my 5/6 behemoth. Will be used as a trout rod.

what brand backing do you recommend? I am going to go 100 yards of 20lb most likely for backing .

Any specific brand? Or they all work fine. Anyone use the brands on Amazon? Piscifun? Sf brandished? Cheeky?

or should I spend alittle more and go with a rio or something ?

I think 100 yards of 20 lb is fine for trout, and most fish frankly. If a fish gets more than a football field's length away from you, you've got bigger problems than not enough backing.

I always use dacron and usually buy whatever's on sale or cheapest at the fly shop. I really don't think brand matters. Some brands are supposed to be thinner than others, but I haven't noticed that.

Do a search of the forum for threads on backing--how much, what brand, what colour, dacron vs. gelspun, etc. There are a lot of opinions on backing out there.
