In sorting through an old stack of rods I found some buried treasures like a yellow/amber Orvis glass spinning rod, an unbuilt bamboo 2-pc Orvis blank and a 3-pc., 2 tip, 8' cane rod I have absolutely no recollection of. It is hand inscribed A.F.R. Co. "The Hadley". It has a nickel silver sliding band reel seat over cork and a carboloy stripping guide. It clearly has been fished though in good shape but not by me. I must have acquired it used. What archeological artifact have I excavated here?

A.F.R = Amherst Fishing Rod. They existed from the late 40's into the early 50's, and supplied LL Bean as well as sold under their own name.

Hadley is a town near Amherst, MA; they named their models after nearby towns.

I know nothing about the Hadley specifically or where it stood quality-wise in their line up, but some of their rods are pretty well regarded.

MeThinks somebody needs a 12 step program when they discover bamboo rods they don't even remember having;)
