Gold Ribbed Hare’s Ear

Winged Wet Fly

Hook – Mustad 3399 or equivalent

Tail - Brown hackle fibers

Ribbing - Oval gold tinsel

Body - Natural rabbit-not plucked *

Hackle - Formed by the long fibers of unplucked rabbit fur as it is wound on. *

Wing – Slate gray duck quill

* The phrase ‘unplucked rabbit fur’ from the Trout recipe listing refers to not removing guard hairs from the dubbing as it is wound on the fly, but rather leaving them intact to create a ‘buggy’ appearance.

Greaser Shrimp

Hook: Octopus short shank, #1/0

Thread: Uni-Thread 6/0, Dk. brown

Tail: Coyote tail

Flash: Flashabou, pearl orange

Eyes: Shrimp eyes, large

Rear body: Estaz, standard, peach

Legs: Sililegs, amber/gold flake

Underbody: 7 wraps 0.020 lead free wire

Body: EP 3D fiber, tan

Weedguard: Hard mono, 25lb

In aviation, a "greaser" is a near perfect landing where you barely know you have touched the ground. As the time of year where the redfish will begin moving up shallow on the mud flats with clear water, a near perfect presentation is required and any extra disturbance can send them quickly running back to the deeper water. This fly is designed to land very lightly on the water, and combining it with a long 12ft. leader makes it extremely stealthy, atleast until you want the redfish to see it right off it's nose.

Cosseboom

Atlantic Salmon

Hook - Gamakatsu T10-6H
Thread - Red
Tag - Oval silver tinsel
Tail - Olive green floss
Ribbing - Oval silver tinsel
Body - Olive green floss
Wing - Gray squirrel tail
Hackle - Yellow hen hackle

(snip)
A couple of decades ago I walked into a clothing store here in Boston. A dapper gent approached me to help. An engraved gold bar across his tie read “Cosseboom”.

“I’ve never seen a ‘Cosseboom’ tie clip--are you a salmon fisherman?” I asked.

“I don’t know why you’d say that,” he replied, “but you know, my dad was crazy about it. He spent lots of time in Canada each summer standing in rivers getting bitten by bugs, spent all winter tying flies. I never saw much point to it. I’m Jack Cosseboom--that’s my name on my tie. And you’re, I’d say, 40 regular. Can I show you some suits?”

Jack evidently wasn’t aware of his father’s enduring reputation. The next time I came by I gave him a Cosseboom I'd tied. He was elated -- but he didn't give me a better price on my next suit!

This is the original recipe in the pic. This is one of my GOTO patterns, just not tied quit the same. I add JC eyes on the cheeks and a topping of a few strands of pearl flashabou

The legs on yours are perfect. I wonder if legs versus no legs makes a difference in the way they drift.
