Default Just a few fish from the kayak...

I participated in a Kayak fishing tournament a few weeks ago... I had tons of fun! I caught tons of fish, everything on my 17$ scientific angler outfit... hehe I had brought my spinning rods, but ever since I caught my first fish on the fly in april, I just can't seem to touch the spinning outfits...

There were 5 categories: Biggest bass, walleye, pike, musky and crappie.... A very fun and friendly tournament!

I caught some nice bass, but in the end, I found a spot where there were so many bluegills and pumkinseeds that I just floated there catching them one after the other... I managed to get biggest crappy of the weekend... hehe

    Pictures!

First fish (not a winner for sure, but still fun!)

    Better one

    FOOTBALL!! hehe

    Crappies!

Overall tons of fun and tons of prizes! Plus everything was caught on topwater... topwater is just so much better!! hehe

looks like a hoot! Those are some healthy bass! I hear you about bluegill and crappie. It can be hard to leave them when their biting well. I've always said, if bluegill grew to 30#, theyde be the worlds greatest gamefish. Ive been spun around in my float tube by big bluegill

Congrates on your crappie award. (Say that out loud and try not to laugh )

Congrats on successful day !! Out of curiosity, who makes you kayake ? The yak I have now works but its not intended for fishing, thinking about a more fly fishing friendly one.

Great post and once again proving that you don't need a 900 dollar rod to have a good time. Congratulations on becoming a fly fishing aficionado.

My kayak is a wilderness system ride 135... A little heavy but so worth it... I can fly fish standing pretty easily and it is super comfortable to sit in all day... It also has a load capacity of 550 lbs which is cool for camping on islands... Juste spent the week-end on it again and had a blast...

I have a Ride 115 and can vouch for all he said about the 135. I have stood in my 115 one time, not hard, and easy to figure out the balance thing. I did not cast while standing as it was my first time standing in the yak. But its not hard to cast while seated either, it just gives you another option and a change in position(s).

all those fish are beefy. even the littler ones look like they've been hitting the gym. watercraft, fly rod and cooperative fish. great combination any day.

Nice fish and just FYI, your crappie is not a crappie. Its a standard old bluegill.
