Thread: Women's Fly Fishing Gear

  1. Default Re: Women's Fly Fishing Gear

I got the Dan Bailey Hippers last week. Well made, no complaints there, but the neoprene bootie is thick as all heck. I did end up having to buy bigger boots which is what I was trying NOT to do. The Orvis boot foot waders would have been a better value, but oh well. Plus we did discover, the boot foot on the new Orvis hippers is not the same boot , but rather LARGER which that too can cause problems with flippers.
Ahhhhh the perfect hipper, dare I dream.

I bought my daughter simms waders becuase of being able to fit her well. Sizing chart matched up pretty good for her. The vest was a different story in that we got a youth size for her, I think it was a redington vest. Simms boots for women also matched up really good for her as well.

I'm considering buying my wife a pair of Patagonia womens fly waders. Women's Fly Fishing Gear TheFlyStop.com Has anyone actually used them? How do they compare to sims or orvis waders for fitting/ comfort while fishing?

If you bought simms you would not be posting on here but on the water fishing in comfort.

    That is outrageous....

Now I can understand if you have an extremely odd sized foot (like you're a Hobbit), yet past that waders should be fit in say their 4 sizes to a maximum inseam (+3-4" for bending) and maximum shoe size based upon known norms. I don't know squat about women's shoes yet can tell you that an average based upon height is going to be a women's 7 (men's 5). Therefor the footie size would be larger trying to find the top end of that range within reason.

Worse still, women's gear is often much more expensive though there are only minimal changes to accommodate a woman's form. The reason quite bluntly demand. Lower volume means less effort at trying to be competitive, and in the end it comes off to customers as though being punished.....So right off from the get go I can see where it would turn a lot of gals off to getting into this sport.

Elizabeth uses Orvis womens Silversonic waders and LOVES them along with her Korker Chrome boots. The only difference in the waders is the cut.

Her only complaints are with other Orvis products not having Orvis logos on them and her Orvis wading jacket not having fleece in the pockets like mine does. I don't know what Orvis is thinking, but while most guys are home complaining about the cold, she is out there catching fish. It would be nice if she had a nice warm pocket for her hands.

I agree totally on the lack of detail on women's Orvis Gear. I always bought the men's because they did, but suffered with the bigger foot size. Drop Orvis a suggestion. They can't fix it if they don't know.

Spoke with Jackie and Christine at Orvis who happen to be the associate art director and women's digital merchant/analys and they completely agree. It is something they have been trying to get for a while.

They have customers that are prudes and not in to logos but I told them if you are going to call it the trout bum collection, you need to bum it up! They agreed and I am going to stay in contact with them. Liz is actually planning on trying to go bone fishing with them in November.
