Fysh, you just might have to give me a streamer lesson when we are on the Green then. I have never had success with them, although you must remember I am relatively new to fly fishing. I have dedicated two separate outings to streamers and gotten skunked, but I hear a lot of people talking about loving fishing with streamers.

I think the fall is the best time for streamers at the Grey Reef, but then I don't fish streamers very much. When I was in Alaska, I fished streamers most of the time. You want to come over and fish the Grey Reef, give me a shout and we can do a float.

Fysh and Dorian: Here is the link to the WYDOT road closure report. The only thing of note is that hwy 191 south out of Rock Springs to the UT boarder is closed this morning.

WYDOT Travel Information Service (Cheyenne)

Speaking of streamers, have you ever seen the SF DVD that highlights the Hyde's? The younger Hyde is deadly fishing streamers on the SF.

Dorian,
I just spoke with Larry and we both think this storm system is looking a little ominus for the next few days, so we might want to rethink this outing.
Like I mentioned before I'm not against fishing in a storm, just not a full on Winter storm, and this one is starting to shape up that way. Also getting to and from the Gorge area might be a little dicey too with very possible road closures on I-80 from the East and West.

I'm going to send you my cell # via p.m. give me a call when you can.

Hey Fysh,

We have had some snow here so I'm gonna make a run to the cabin. Looks like there is enough fresh stuff to cover the ash fall from Redoubt. You heard about that right?

No ash here at home to speak of but it landed from Lake Creek all the way to Hewitt Lake and beyond. That's about 30 miles of the trip with a layer of volcanic ash on the rivers and every where else too. It had the snow melting big time till it got covered so this will no doubt be an interesting trip. Overflow is the big hazard. The snow melt forms rivers on top of the frozen rivers. Sometimes you can see it other times it is present just under the snow that looks like snow but could be covering a foot or more of standing water.

It'll keep me on my toes. Gotta get things ready today and head out about 6:00 AM tomorrow. I need to get out there to cut wood. Now with the ash on it I'll be sharpening blades often I'm told. This will be my first experience with these conditions.

Hello Ardimus,
I did see and hear about the Redoubt volcanic activity on the news. Seems to be alot of Volcananic and Earth Quake activity going on around the Pacific right now. Precurser of things to come?

Dude, this trip sounds kind of spookie!! Are you sure of the safety factor?

No, but then I'm never sure of the safety thing. I just try to be prepared for whatever may happen. Being a 39 year survivor of motor cycling I drive a snowmachine carefully and never think everything is cool.

Like Harry Calahan kept saying in 'Magnum Force' a man's gotta know his limitations.
