I will be visiting San Antonio in December from WYO. I was wondering if it would be worth my time to pack a rod and some bass flies for local city park lakes, or will the cooler temperatures be poor for bass fishing?
How much time will you have? If you are looking for something to do in the evenings after work then this wouldn't work but if you have a day or so, I would recommend checking out the Guadalupe River below Canyon Lake for trout, it is about 1 hour north of San Antonio. It is probably not the type of trout water you are used to but it is the southern most trout stream in the US.
I haven’t ever fished in San Antonio. I have fished on the nearby Medina river which is listed in the link, but that’s been out of a canoe. I’ve been on a few of those Hill country streams in the winter like the Medina and they really don’t shut down during the winter. The San Antonio river right in town at Brackenridge Park is spring fed and looks like the Medina. December in San Antonio and other parts of south Texas typically means brief bouts of cool or coldish possibly damp weather followed by sunny days in the seventies.
