Thread: Hello! new to forum...

  1. Default Hello! new to forum...

I'm new here, so i figured i'd say hey to everyone....

I was reading a few different articles in Fly Fusion Magazine yesterday and started wondering about the saying "85% of a trout's feeding habits are subsurface..."

I know this is definitely true for almost everywhere i've ever had the chance to fish (mostly western Colorado, Texas, and Southern Nebraska) but does this percentage have a tendency to change significantly over the seasons of the year?

oh and this is specifically referring to trout....

thanks, and good to meet you guys

    Hi TXfly,

Welcome to the forum. We are glad you found us and look forward to your participation.

Obviously if your water has a heavy hatch on the surface you will probably catch more on the surface. Other times you may do better sub-surface. Your water has a lot to do with it. In the high Serra's there are many small streams and I always fished with drys all season long. Never did see a hatch on the water but the dry flies worked. In this case it may have been a combination of thin water and a very short season.
