Just like to say hi. I fish in the UK and live in London at present. My brother however lives in Washington DC. I am planning to visit him later this year, probably July time. I am taking my fly rod with me . Please can you advise me on :
1: where to fish?
2: what flys catch in the USA - probably quite different to here!

Here are some of the fish trout I have caught in the UK and originally being from Zimbabwe, i thought I would include a picture of a good tigerfish also....

For some reason I can't post links here so please just paste these onto your browser. If there is another way to upload photos here... please let me know how....

Location
South Texas
I think the Shenandoah Mountains area will be the closest fly fishing for trout near DC. I don't know off hand what hatches would be coming off in that area at that time, but size 16 tan Elk Hair Caddis, and Adams would be pretty safe bets. You can probably find hatch charts online for the area. -------------------------------- And welcome to the group!

Thank you for your hospitality here! I am going to try google search for some more information soon but please if any of yoy know of any good venues around there, please let me know!

BTW I think our flies and yours are quite different. I had to adjust from the 'good' flies in Zimbabwe to UK and now the states, any recommendations of what I should look at buying, apart from the aforementioned?

Basically you will be fishing for the same thing in the first two pictures plus some steelhead and salmon. I have a freind that lives in Oregon and he goes for Goldens a lot. They almost look like Albino Rainbows.
I would think for gear a 5wt to a 6 wt. As far as flies, woolley buggers, nymphs like Haresear, pheasant tails, prince nymphs, and dries for July, some mosquitoes, Adams, caddis.
You should have a good time up there. Check out:

That website by the way is great... thanks. Just looked at your signature Joni, those are some fine fish... Instead of photo bucket you should use the fishing picture site I have used, see my signature, this is a fishing related site that does the same as photobucket......
