Thread: Hey Everyone!

  1. Thumbs up Hey Everyone!

Hello from the Central Valley of California! They call it the San Joaquin Valley, but this time of year, I call it hotter than hades. Anyone that's been here when it's 105+ knows exactly what I mean. Well, I wish I could say I've been fly fishing for 40 years, but I can't. I'm a rookie! In fact, I just bought my wife and I Martin Fly Fishing Combo Sets to learn with. They are both 8' 7/8. I hope this is good to begin with. I'll upgrade as my skills upgrade. I've been spincast fishing for years. My dad taught me the joy of fishing the streams and rivers of Quincy California where I grew up part of my life. Funny, I lived next to the Feather River and have never fly fished a day in my life. Anyway, I figured I'd try this before my 50th birthday, which is right around the corner. Once again, Hi to everyone!

You are very welcomed aboard. What are you going to be fishing for and what kind of waters? Pictures are always GREAT!

Welcome to the forum! We are all here to help each other and to learn from each other. Ask a lot of questions and read all you can get your hands on about flyfishing. Cortland and Orvis and other websites have lots of great information as well as here. Looking forward to hearing from you!
"I fish because I love to; because I love the environs where trout are found; because trout do not lie or cheat and cannot be bought or bribed or impressed by power, but respond only to quietude and humility and endless patience...because only in the woods can I find solitude without lonliness..." Robert Traver 1964 (Judge John Voelker)

Thanks Joni for the "Welcome Aboard!"

I'm going to be fishing for Rainbows & Browns. I've never had much luck with Bass, but I've never been skunked with Trouts!

I'll put some post some pics somewhere Joni.

    Thanks again!

Thanks Troutslayer for the hearty WELCOME! I'll take your advice and check out the sites you mentioned in your message. I'm looking forward to learning the art of flyfishing! Thanks again!

    Hi djuss,

I was born and raised in Fresno and know the heat quite well. There is some nice fly water around Fresno. You may find the 8wt rod a bit heavy for the small stream fishing that is available. There is another poster here that is from Fresno and one from Madera. Let us know if you have any questions.

I'd rather hunt fish than bait deer any day.
