    Default A recent convert

    Hey everyone,

Name is Nick and I am a recent fly fishing convert. I have been fishing for the better part of my life and recently decided to take up this fly fishing thing. This past winter, I forced myself to really give it a try by leaving my conventional tackle at home and only bringing the fly rod(s) with me.

The more I do it, the more I enjoy it. I am still not very good at it, but I do enjoy it. I generally fish in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Indiana but travel quite a bit for work so I get to fish all over the place. One of my recent trips was to DC and ended up with 4 smallies, a creek chub, and one aerial hook spitting rainbow.

In addition to fishing/fly fishing, I am a new father and a blogger. Finding time to do it all is tough but that's what makes life fun - besides, somebody always has it harder.

I guess that's all for now - see you around the forums!

    Hi Nick,

You have picked a good site to join, this membership will answer about any question you will have and do so in a generous way. I'm glad to have you with us and I hope you'll become a regular contributer to the discussions. Please don't feel that because you are new that you have nothing to say, we all have something to say, some just more often

Thanks for the welcomes so far!!

I forgot to mention that in addition to taking up fly fishing, it was only natural to start fly tying. This was a great way to pass the time when being out on the water was not an option

Excellent-- sounds like you're hooked. Check out the Tie-Alongs that Pocono led in the fly tying forum if you haven't already-- and there are some flies in the Fly Pattern forum with step by step instructions and pics-- look for "SBS" ( for step by step) in the title of the post. And feel free to jump in on fly swaps if any interest you- everyone is always welcome regardless of experience.

It's only a matter of time until you start building your own rods...

    ...and that's fun, too.

    Hi Nick,

Welcome. If your work brings you to the Boston area, let me know. I"ll take you fishing in the salt for stripers. Don't worry about the equipment, you can use some of mine.

    Take care,
    Dan
