  1. Default New to flyfishing-Western Mass

Hello to all, I've been lurking for a few weeks now. Got a new rod and some waders and will be heading out this Wednesday for my first fly and water fishing experience. I've been practicing in the yard and I feel like I'm ready for some water. I also enjoy fishing from a kayak so I will be trying the fly from a yak too. I'm about 5 minutes from the Swift river in Belchertown if anyone is near there or has fished it and has some pointers I would appreciate it.

    thanks

I'd rather hunt fish than bait deer any day.

Hello Layla and thanks to everyone for a nice warm welcome.

I got the waders wet yesterday for the first time, someone needs to put out a warning for how weird it feels to walk into water and not get wet. I had a great time. I met a guy there that was very helpful, basically watching as I started casting and would point out what I could do to improve. He spent alot of time showing the advantages of a slip knot to tie the fly on, showing what flies he was using, how to shoot out line, how to work the fly downstream. As I was practicing a roll cast a trout jumped out to grab a fly I had tied but it missed, the fly had just popped off the surface of the water. I can't wait to get back out there.
