After having a bit of an issue getting activated I'm finally able to post.
I got back into fly fishing this year after almost 15 years away from it. I fished a lot in college in NJ but once I moved to the city and got rid of my car I lost touch with the sport. I had spent a lot of time these past years riding bikes in the Catskills and Hudson Valley area. Passing many rivers and camping along some nice lakes got me thinking about fishing again. Last year I picked up 7 piece Orvis travel rod to easily pack on some camping rides and threw some new line on my old reel. My excitement for fishing was kick started and this year I decided to jump back in and got back out this April. I've been having a blast ever since. Purchasing a car this past February also helped.
My first few times out were very successful and I seemed to forget everything I knew. My cast was a mess and didn't have much luck. In May I was taking a trip down to Western North Carolina and read about how amazing the trout fishing is in that area. So I hired a guide for a day and never caught so many fish in my life. Things started to click and I learned a lot of new stuff, especially about nymphing. Since that trip I’ve been able to get out a few more weekends and happy to say that I’ve landed a fish each time. I’ve also added a new rod/reel to my kit (Sage Circa 379/Lamson Litespeed 1.5) and fighting a fish on a 3wt has been exhilarating.
This coming weekend I’m heading up to the Adirondacks for a camp put on by The Mountaineer in Keene Valley, NY. I got lucky when they had a last minute opening and jumped at the opportunity. Weather forecast is looks perfect and Friday can’t come soon enough.
I’m really happy to have found this forum as it seems to be a place with a great amount of quality information. I look forward to digging around and learning as much as possible.
Here’s the first fish on the new rod.
