Not to answer for Lars, but Yoop is the UP, or Upper Peninsula, of Michigan. Those that live in the UP are Yoopers, and those that in the Lower Peninsula are Trolls.

And I am a Troll, born-n-raised in the Detroit area. Moved to NM when I started high school. Thought I wanted to move back when I got out of college, but by that time, the West had gotten into my blood. As Georgia O'Keeffe said, among other things:

A week ago it was the mountains I thought the most wonderful, and today it's the plains. I guess it's the feeling of bigness in both that carries me away.
