    Default Hello From Northern VA

    Hello from Northern VA,
I am new to fly fishing. Iíve been trying to fly fish about over a year and not caught one yet. My son has been fly fishing for sometime and turn me on to it. I have tied all my own flies and rods up to three. I gave one away to a good friend a good fly fisher and he loves it. I can tell you I am already hooked. I am so happy to find this forum to exchange tips.

Welcome FlukeFly. It's a common thing for new comers in this sport to not catch anything their first year, I have been there myself and can tell you right off, be patient, the fish will come. The first year is always the hardest, but look at it as a year of learning how to read the water, and getting your casting into shape, plus getting familiar with the bug life in your part of the country. You'll do better next year, and before you know it, it'll all start clicking and coming together for you.

In the meantime, stay focused, watch the surrounding area of where your fly is and if a fish does take the fly, take note on where the fish was, that's a great way to start getting into a rhythm with catching fish. But most of all, just have fun, fish or no fish.
The only thing human kind ever learned through history, is that through history, human kind has learned nothing.

Welcome to the forum. Lots of knowledgeable people here willing to help, so don't be shy about asking questions. As Scotty says, the fish will come. Everyone has those days where the fish just won't cooperate, so hang in there and keep us updated on your progress.
