About Me

  • About emtrout
Hi! My name is Mel. I've been fly fishing since 1990. I fish mainly for trout and sometimes largemouth bass. Fished mainly local creeks and lakes in Southern California and the Eastern Sierras but have travelled to the usual angling meccas in North America (Northern California, Montana, Idaho, Colorado, Wyoming, Canadian Rockies, Alaska and a few more).

I also enjoy fly tying. Mainly I tie generic dry and wet flies. My favorites flies to tie and use are the parachute adams, elk hair caddis, hares ear's nymph, prince nymph, wooly buggers, and the pheasant tail nymph (like I said - generic flies). I'm not opposed to buying flies though. As a matter of fact, I make it a point to visit the local fly shop and buy flies whenever I fish a destination that's not my homewater. Still, I get to the water and use my parachute adams and elk hair caddis.
