Endless Summer

by karstopo on 10-08-2018 at 04:42 AM
It kind of seems that way. Here at 29 degrees north lat.on the Texas coast, October is the time when chilled air from the arctic arrives. By the time these first fronts get here, there is no chill really, just a switch in the wind from south to north and a drop in the humidity.

Some years, these first fronts arrive in September. September has come and gone and good riddance, as this yearís version vied for one of the worst ever. I had at least 25Ē of rain at my house, over 6 months

What is it About the Surf

by karstopo on 08-31-2018 at 06:16 AM
That keeps me coming back?

The surf knows how to dish out a beating, literally. Yesterday afternoon I was taking broadside after broadside, try casting a fly rod as a breaker taller than you knocks you off your feet. Body surfing combined with fly fishing, is that a sport?

March

by karstopo on 03-18-2018 at 03:56 AM
So this is our first March in the house by the lake. The sun has come out. The air smells like grapes and honey with the blooming wisteria, citrus, and yaupon holly. We walk around and just marvel at all the new growth.

March seems to mean fishing here on the lake. I havenít fished this much in freshwater since I was a teenager. My daughter and her boyfriend have been fishing a lot. My friend Rick has been over a few times for fishing. Various lake residents and their friends and

Spring?

by karstopo on 02-18-2018 at 08:46 AM
Is Spring here? The Crappie say yes. Crappie on the lake I live on move into the shallows next to the bank to spawn in early spring. Iíve been recently picking off some with Balanced jigs in 2-4 feet of water. From reading the Crappie boards here in Texas, this lake Iím on is precocious. Most everywhere else the Crappie are still down deep.

My dad wants to do a road trip soon to find Spring. My teenage son is starting a school break soon and dad wants me and my son Matthew to join

Healing takes time

by karstopo on 01-24-2018 at 11:38 AM
I got my right hip joint replaced last Monday, the 15th of January. Iím 55 and never really had a great hip joint according to the orthopedic surgeon. Something genetic about it. My dad and his dad had replacement surgery. My dadís youngest brother needs it.

Before the surgery, I started having signs of trouble maybe 7 or 8 years ago. Iíd go for a run and get a distinct sharp pain in the joint that would smooth out some and subside some once I got a little into the run probably
