I grew up in Arroyo Grande, CA but back then I mainly fished in the surf with a spinning rod. I didn't pick up fly fishing until the early 80's, way before the internet and YouTube so I'm self taught from reading fly fishing magazines and books.
Now I'm located in Western Wyoming and loving all this water to explore.

Pinedale, WY
Interests:
Fly fishing, fly tying and military aircraft
Occupation:
Retired.......I get to go fishing anytime I want! LOL!

Winter Fishing in Western Wyoming

by mcnerney on 02-15-2015 at 06:33 PM
I went fishing yesterday, decided to take advantage of this incredibly warm weather we have been experiencing (I sure hope we don't pay dearly this summer with another dreadful fire season). This is that time of year in the west where the animals are in full migration mode, so I time the departure from the house so I can see the sides of the roadway clearly (having one near miss with a big bull moose is enough), that said, I left the house a little before 7 am, first stop was at Daniel Junction

When I left the house the temp was 10 degrees, kind of chilly, but the forecast was for a high of mid-40's and virtually no wind, so things were looking good. Due to the low overnight temps we decided

Wyoming Indian Summer and Overnight Fishing Trip (Part 1)

by mcnerney on 10-09-2014 at 05:12 PM
I just got back from an overnight fishing trip to the Green river and to also watch the lunar eclipse early Wed morning. We have been experiencing some incredible Indian Summer like weather so it didn't surprise me that I found lots of other folks camping and fishing, so that made it a bit difficult to find a fishing and camping spot away from the others as my two dogs can be a bit annoying.
I got a bit of a late start and didn't get to the river until lunchtime but it was amazing to see
