About stenacron
Uprooted from the Lehigh Valley (PA) and dropped onto the Wasatch Front (UT)!

Back in PA I was a year-round angler with only the spring and fall dedicated 100% to fly fishing in streams for trout. Winters were for ice fishing and summers were for bass fishing (lakes for largemouth and rivers for smallmouth... some fly fishing). Then business relocation brought me and my family to Utah in August 2010 and it became clear right away that my dedication to fly fishing was about to take a serious upturn. It took a while to adjust to bigger rivers and (especially) tailwaters and I was amazed that around the time I would be putting the fly rod away back in PA (mid June), things were just getting going in the Rocky Mountain west!

These days I still get a little bit of ice fishing in, but by and large I am 100% fly fishing for trout from early March to Thanksgiving. My latest addiction is fishing stillwaters for trout. Fishing for trout in lakes and ponds was almost totally unheard of back east... so this is a whole new frontier to me with a whole new set of challenges. The High Uintas range is about an hour away and provides numerous alpine lakes to explore with everything from Cutthroats to Brookies to Grayling (and even some Golden Trout).

Moving out west exposed me to many more "destination" fisheries as well. Back east I was pretty much a home body, sticking to a few well known local waters (Bushkill Cr, Martins Cr, Saucon Cr, Brodhead Riv), but out west I've been fishing all over Utah, much of Colorado, and even up to Yellowstone N.P.

About the same time that I moved out west was when I discovered NAFFF... without a doubt the finest fly fishing site possible, thanks in large part to the tireless work of the moderators that maintain a largely positive atmosphere and keep threads from descending into nastiness.

Even after almost thirty (30) combined years of fly fishing (and fly tying), I still feel like I am facing new challenges or learning something new EVERY TIME that I hit the water. And the day those feelings go away will probably be the day that I hang up the waders for good... but I honestly don't see that ever happening.

Tight lines!
