Hi guys,

Im new on fly fishing, just a month with my new fly gear. I am doing some research on this fish from my trip to Hotter river in MA. No body knows what kind of fish is this one. Looks like a trout but the mouth its like a carp. Can somebody help me to identify this fish? Thank you in advance.

hey orlandots, welcome to the forum.

I'm voting fallfish too, (closely related to chubs). They spawn this time of year and build nests on the stream bed that look like piles of little stones. They're in a lot of New England trout streams along with chubs and will whack flies especially in slower water sections.

Thank you guys, it was my first time fishing in a river. I catch two of them but the one in the picture was the bigger one. Fallfish, (Semotilus corporalis) its the correct species but the common name used by anglers is chub. Thank you all for the help. I really like this website and their fraternal members.

It's a giant minnow called a Fallsfish. Decent on the fight. They are usually found in the same waters as trout.
