Idaho to consider closing steelhead fishing on Clearwater/Snake rivers.

If their statistics are correct, I am in full support that they close fishing. I appreciate conservation efforts like this.

But they are still allowing catch and kill for chinook and have a new catch and keep season for coho, on top of the same runs with endangered steelhead.

I guess I should have phrased that differently.

I wonder why their numbers were so far off. Their preseason estimate of 8000 was way off. I'd like to know how they arrived at that number and now estimate only 2500 B-run will return. Are there any stats from the previous 3 to 5 years with preseason estimates and actual numbers that did return?
