Default hook and hackle size

i am the beginner fly tyer and when i go to buy hackle should i buy hackle the same size as the hook i am using to tie with. Say i am using a 16 dry fly hook should i order hackle size 16. or should i but a different size . it never fails when i buy something over the internet i never order the right thing. i even ask the fly shop owner and i got delivered the wrong thing to my house . i hate to say it but i have no fly shops around or anyone around t o ask or teach me these things i have the internet and myself. any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi Flysean,

I do believe that every person that does tie their own flies, knows what you are going through. DO NOT GIVE UP! Although it may be frustrating at times, the process of learning and the path taken, is different for everyone. Have you purchased a book or DVD for beginners? Although this site is a great place for help and direction, having a book in the hand has always helped me.
