Fished last night upstream from TMA, in a fairly silt area. Caught a bunch on a white mop up until 7:30 p.m.

Switched to white bugs. Light Cahill wet and nymph produced one juvenile sucker. Switched to White Wulff and cream spinner. This combo produced a couple of dinkers until dark, 8:45 p.m.

Hatch intensified at this point. Not clouds of bugs but a bunch. Action shifted to skinnier water. Lost the spinner, too dark to tie another one. Last fish of evening was the best, a solid 16 inches of smallie that was feeding about a yard away. I could have kicked it.

Forecast next few days unsettled, which is weatherese for "we have no idea "

River doesn't seem to be up much despite raining off and on all day.

Didn't go out tonight, had to work. Thunderstorms expected next couple of nights.

Well it's up now at 1170. There are a few places where this is wadeable, but it's not much fun, frankly.

Oh for a drift boat, and an aquatic Sherpa to handle the oars.

Best case is it doesn't rain and dips down to the 600 level by mid-week, which still gives us a decent whack at the white flies.

I saw an ark go by on the Housatonic as I was driving to work. There was a bearded fellow on the deck, and a giraffe. I waved but they didn't see me.

local flyshop is still mentioning white flies. agree?
seems like it has been a long time since the first day of hatch.
