    Default Southeast NY: Catskills/Delaware advice

    Friends,

On an upcoming family trip I will take a fishing day from Milford PA on the lower Delaware. This will be early August, so water temps are to be considered.

I want to limit a one hour drive from Milford to fly fish. How about the Neversink? Or the upper branch of the Delaware from Calicoon?

Or up into PA? I don't mind small fish, but don't want to spend all day driving. I don't mind a good hike to get to a cool spot (Neversink Gorge?).

    Appreciated always,

Milford is only 67 miles from Hancock, NY. Is that too far?

Neversink George might be too hot to fish for the browns at that time. But you could hit the blue lines for some brook trout in that area.

No, not bad. Would you suggest the East branch, or any other part which is below the reservoirs and thus cooler?

It all depends on the flows, and that is up to the state. I fished the west branch into August. You just need to be careful and efficient when a fish gets hooked. It's not ideal, but definitely fishable.

Thanks! What about headwaters/tributaries of the Beaverkill like Willemoc?

Your best option is the upper West Branch. By upper I literally mean as close to the Cannonsville dam as you can get.

All of those should work as well! Even tributaries to other reservoirs will work! =) I had a blast last weekend at some small blue line. =)
