Thread: Costa Sunrise Silver Mirror vs Smith Low Light Ignitors

Default Costa Sunrise Silver Mirror vs Smith Low Light Ignitors

Has anyone tried both of these and have a preference?

I've had two pairs of the low light ignitors but recently lost them carelessly in a stream.

I'm looking to either pick up another pair or try out the Costa sunrise silver mirror lenses, but have not had any experience with it. I believe it's 40% light transmission on the Smiths and 30% on the Costas, and honestly I like wearing the low lights all day long unless it is unbearably sunny.

Just wondering if anyone had any input before I go grab a new pair.

    Thanks in advance,

I can't provide much help, but did see the Costa Sunrise Silver Mirror advertised in Fly Fishermen magazine today, so I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has actually tried these low light sunglasses. I just got back from a fishing trip to Montana and the prime time to fish was always in the late evening when the light was very low. My current pair of Costa's just doesn't cut it during low light.

Good fishing glasses are expensive because they really protect your sight. Performance for fishing can vary quite widely. I've used Action Optics, Costa's, Smith, Maui Jim's and a variety of others.
IMHO Costa makes good glass, is generally better for saltwater than fresh, and their warranty service is below average. I do, however, have a pair for driving I like alot. As for freshwater fishing I've always found Action Optics, which has morphed into Smith to be among the best. I currently use their copper coated lenses and find them amazing. My view, no pun intended, although glass lenses are better than polycarbonate, even though they are heavier than poly. Glass doesn't scratch and easily as poly, has less distortion, and with care last a lot longer. Both are expensive, the glass somewhat more, but I love glass. Also, having lived in Key West, spent years on the water, fresh and salt, and being 73, I have no cataracts or aged related sun abuse. Worth every dime!

I recently picked up a pair. Very pleased with the performance in Central Oregon on the Metolius river over 3 days. I regularly wear costas 580 green on the salt flats but in low light they are too dark.

These glasses can be bought from a that will be cost efficient. These glasses provide with good vision and also give protection from UV Rays.
It improves the underwater view and makes it more clear that is very helpful while fishing.

It's not a true mirror lense. It's just named that.
