Wanting to fishing the Deschutes River for the first time

I am looking to take a weekend trip over to the Deschutes River this weekend and was looking for any suggestions for places to fish from Warm Springs - Dalles. Never had a chance to fish this river yet so I was hoping someone could help with a little info. Thanks for any help.

there's a pretty serious fire burning over there from the reservation to down around Whiskey Dick. I'd check before departing...

EDIT: I hear the river is open with mop up operations going on. I'd still call a shop in Bend or Maupin and check before going. http://www.deschutesangler.com/Fly+Fishing

Thanks for the heads up the more I've looked into it looks like it might be getting worse over there. Might need a change of plans/location for the weekend.
