Default another dam gone :)

read this morning where the Stearns dam on the Crooked in central Oregon is coming out a little at a time. It was not functioning as a diversion site any longer, thus had no valuable function. I think that opens 10-12 of miles river up.

They are lowering levels slowly and volunteers are working the banks and side channels to rescue fish and get them back in the main channel. very cool...

Mikel,

That's great news. I watched the reports and footage of the Marmot Dam when they removed it from the Sandy River a few years ago. They estimated it would take several years for the sediment to clear out from above the dam site. It all washed through in less than a year, and the steelhead and salmon showed up immediately after it came down. Nature has a way.
