Gentlemen,

I will be out in Seattle/Tacoma Area for work in October. I have 2 free days to explore. October 22-23. Are there any good places within a 3 hour drive of SeaTac airport that are open this time of year for Steelhead? Is the Olympic Peninsula closed during this time? Is lower BC Canada a better option?

I was just hoping to wade fish and swing flies in some beautiful areas with a shot at a wild steelhead. i know it's a long shot for first ever trips.

I have to work that Monday in Puyallup so I don't want to drive too far Sunday night.

Shoot me a PM or share some ideas here. No honey holes needed. Just some suggestions on rivers open to angling and I don't need a jet / drift boat.

Thanks,

Bad idea huh? Altered my plans to SW Wa area. Columbia tribs.... The Dalles area. Is there a chance there? I guess I'll find out. I'll get some nice nature pics at least. You guys are tough.

If you plan to fish Oregon at all, from the Dalles you're only about an hour from the Deschutes at Maupin. I'm not sure what the run is like this year, but it's a great river with a ton of public access. If nothing else, the fishing for resident redside rainbows should be good.

Well.... the fishing wasn't stellar, but the Deschutes is a real beauty. Fish count numbers are down significantly. Fishing on the Columbia has been closed I was told as a result of the low count #'s.

Landed a small steelhead, a small whitefish and faught a Sockeye. I missed a bunch of fish, but hey those are the breaks.

The drive down to the Canyon stretch is amazing. The Mountains, the cliffs, the hair pin curves. And then the river itself just leaves you in awe.

Some flora.....

Some fauna....... (missed the turkeys, hawks, countless ducks, and oh yeah, the fish)

Some gear porn (Redington Prospector 11'9" 8 wt and 3 3/4" Farlex direct drive 1 way check)............

And a cool falls........

You owe it to yourself to fish here once.
