Next June I'll be in the area a day or two in a small rental car (I can't drive long distances on rough roads) . I have never been to Olympic NP so part of the day will be sight seeing however if I could fish a half day- I'd need a stream with shallow enough water to wade or clear enough banks to cast a fly line. What would be the best fish to target at that time of year? Chinook/steelhead preferred but if that isn't doable- then local trout.

First, you'll love the Olympics. Get up to Hurricane Ridge as part of your trip - the drive up starts at Port Angeles. I'd recommend contacting Waters West fly shop in Port Angeles for some ideas before you come; they know the area the best and could give you some tips. Depending on how far you're willing to drive you might be able to get to the Sol Duc river in the park.

Going after salmon or steelhead in a half day trip would be sporty at best. Fishing for trout in a river or searun cutthroat on a beach would be the way I'd go.
