Here are the flies I used and have done wonders on shad for me this season.

The one is a Bloody Maria made by a friend. (Its what he called it)

This one he called a Beady Maria :)

This one I made and called it The Bad Santa :D

Very cool. Nothing in my trout box looks like that hah.
Do you usually fish these dead drifted or are you swinging them?

Ya they are different than most flies :D

I did dead drift, swing and even threw out my line by hand, and thinking I tangled it I pulled it back by hand and about 10 feet below me I hooked one hahaha

I had one hell of a time this year!

Those look like they would work very well! Should also work well as Crappie flies!

I've tried all types of flies for shad, and get a bit too fancy with them sometimes. Simple flies have been my best producers too!

Like them! Red and white can be a hot shad color on the east coast as well. And where I shad fish red is a bonus cause it takes alot of Smallies when the shad are quiet. Nice job. What size hook?

For the my buddies Beady Maria I like to use the Umpqua Tiemco TMC 2488. For the Bloody Maria and the Bad Santa I use the the size 10 Mustad nymph hook. Hope this helps a little :)
