I have fishpond leader gauge and I have never been comfortable that I am using it correctly. I assume the last slot the tippet will slide into is the measure of tippet size. Is this correct?

That's the way I use mine. Problem is I have 2 and I get a different result from each. Either one gauge is off or the diameter that the tippet manufacturer states on the spool is questionable. I'm in the process of buying some new shop calipers and will check further.

Mine is not Fishpond, but it gives the diameter in thousandths and you have to convert that to XXs
