  1. Default Rod/Reel advice?

Hopefully you guys can steer me in the right direction. I will be moving to Denver, Colorado soon and would like to get into fly fishing. If anyone is familiar with the surrounding fly fishing opportunities could you please tell me the appropriate rod and reel size/length/weight that would be best for this area? I was thinking a 9 ft. 5 wt. fly rod with matching reel. Would this be adequate for the area? Also, on a 5 wt. is it that important to get a reel with a good drag or will the drag never really come into play due to the size of fish in the area?

You won't go wrong with a 9ft 5 wt rod as an all purpose rod for fly fishing the Rockies. I wouldn't spend a lot on a reel, in fact I would seriously take a look at one of the Allen Fly Fishing Reels, you can't beat the price (discount to forum members) for the quality of reel. I second the Allen & Co reels. I have the XL 7/8. Very light and well put together.
It's not the heat, it's the stupidity.
What manner of jackassery will I be subjected to today?

What Larry said. 9' 5 wt is a good all round rod. As soon as I read your post I was thinking 5 wt or 6 wt.
