  1. Default Middle fork flathead upstream

    Hi folks,
Just looking for some insight as to what to expect (aside from bears) when I hike up along the middle fork of the Flathead late July. We're planning on hiking down to the river somewhere upstream/s'east of Essex and moseying/fishing up towards Schafer Meadows.
Flies? Cuttie size? Will we need waders or can we wet wade like we did last year ~ the same time when we hiked into the S. Fork via Big Salmon creek? I don't have my maps yet, but this fork/river does not look to be as braided.
    Thanks for the info!

Fly Fishing the Rocky Mountain Backcountry by Rich Osthoff has some information regarding fish size and flies about the Middle Fork of the Flathead in the chapter about the Bob. Buy the book.....you won't regret it.

Lets us know what you find up there, please. Late.
