You always have these damn IDIOTS that think they are being cute doing stuff like this. If they are caught they need to be made examples of and given the harshest sentences the can receive. Sent them to me and I will make sure the bodies are never found.

Dang, Skippy, we weren't looking to croak 'em; just maybe send 'em up the river for a bit.

I think it was already covered, but they're probably shake & bake methamphetamine manufacturers. Dump chemical components into the bottle and set it in the river, the surrounding water moderates temperature and pressure (making the bottle less likely to explode), and come back hours later to retrieve the product- you can even set them adrift and pick them up at the next downstream boat ramp.

We've had alerts posted in my area occasionally, warning anglers not to investigate or pick them up. If you see something suspicious, notify authorities.

Or they could be the lye and aluminum foil type. They can explode when touched. Either way don't touch anything suspicious just report its location.

Update. They got the guy. Tip of the hat to Basalt Police and Pitkin County Sheriffs.

A 43-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly throwing bottles into the Roaring Fork River for months.

The suspect, Ricardo Maestrino Parras-Membreno, was arrested Friday morning.

The bottles began showing up in the Roaring Fork on January 24.

Police said 74 bottles have been found in the river since then.

Authorities said the bottles have been filled with corrosive, flammable materials that are hazardous to people's health.

Basalt Police Chief Greg Knott said his officers set up cameras near the area where the bottles were being found.

Knott said those cameras got good pictures of the suspect as he was throwing bottles into the river.

After working leads, officers set up an undercover operation and witnessed Parras-Membreno throwing more bottles into the water Friday morning.

Officers moved in and quickly arrested Parras-Membreno.

Later in the day, deputies from the Pitkin County Sheriff's Office, and other agencies, executed a search warrant at Parras-Membreno's home in the Roaring Fork Mobile Home Park.

Parras-Membreno is being held in the Pitkin County jail.

I was going fly fishing until my wife suggested it, now I can't tell who is outsmarting who!

Being "one with nature" requires a knowledge of what animals are living nearby and a weapon of sufficient magnitude to give you at minimum an equal chance of survival. No one has an invisible aura that animals can detect and sense your good intentions.

    Thanks for the update.
Glad they caught the bastid. Hope he stays locked up for a VERY long time; at least until after fishing season.
